Job Description:

HI has been working in the areas of community based DRR and Health sector preparedness since 2006. Since 2018 HI has been implementing “Strengthening Health Sector (HSS) and Community Resilience” project in 6 earthquake affected districts. An overall objective of this project is to increase the resilience of the authorities, health service providers and communities including most vulnerable through inclusive emergency preparedness and creating an inclusive DRR policy environment.  Similarly, HI also has been providing technical support for disability inclusion and accessibility for a project “Responding to Covid-19 impacts and maintaining resilience of the most vulnerable populations” with aim of responding immediate emergency need magnified by COVID19 Pandemic. For the purpose of supporting these two projects Nepal invites application for the following two positions:  

Project Officer, Health Sector Emergency (PO- HSE) – 1 position 

Terms & Conditions: Fixed Term contract till 31st December 2021 based in Kathmandu 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Plan and implement inclusive health sector preparedness activities linked with common hazard including earthquake and epidemic outbreaks.
  • Prepare guideline, SOP, training packages, policies and instruments related to disaster preparedness, response and recovery/rehabilitation initiatives as per SPHERE Standards, Sendai Framework of Action, DRR and Disability Management Acts 2074 in Nepal.
  • Design information, education and communication materials and document lesson learned from the project and disseminate to wider audiences to promote inclusive Health sector preparedness.
  • Represent HI in all relevant networks on Health sector preparedness and share HI’s expertise and value addition in inclusive Health sector preparedness.
  • Support Senior PO – Resilience/HSSP in team work and inter-unit coordination.
  • Coordinate with municipalities, D/PHOs, provincial and municipal hospitals to ensure effective implementation of health emergency initiatives linked with natural disaster and epidemic outbreak.
  • Ensure the Government counterparts, service providers, project partners DPOs/NGOs and other stakeholders are managing all the inclusive Health sector preparedness activities as per agreement with HI within the available financial resources and the stipulated timeframe.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Sound coordination and communication skill and knowledge of Government Healthcare System would be added advantage.
  • Basic understanding on disability rights literacy and inclusive DRR will be an advantage.
  • Interpersonal skill to build and maintain effective working relations with all stakeholders

Education + Experience:

  • Minimum Masters of Public Health, Health Care Management and other health science related field with2 year experiences or Bachelor of Public Health, Health Care Management and other health science with minimum 3 years of proven working experience on healthcare thematic sector.
