Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced PostgreSQL Database Administrator with at least 3 years of professional expertise in database management, including hands-on experience with Oracle. The ideal candidate will also have experience managing databases in a microservices architecture. This role involves ensuring the performance, availability, and security of PostgreSQL databases while providing support for legacy Oracle systems and assisting in database migrations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Administer, maintain, and optimize PostgreSQL databases for high performance, availability, and security.
  • Design and manage databases for microservices architectures, ensuring proper data partitioning, consistency, and scaling.
  • Collaborate with development teams to design and maintain optimal database schemas, specifically suited to microservices environments.
  • Plan and implement database schema changes, migrations, upgrades, and backups.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and resolve incidents to minimize downtime.
  • Write scripts for automation of routine database tasks (e.g., backups, monitoring).
  • Ensure database security through access control, encryption, and auditing.
  • Tune database queries and optimize database performance in distributed microservices environments.
  • Conduct regular capacity planning and resource allocation to meet future demands.
  • Provide technical support and expertise for Oracle databases, especially in hybrid environments.
  • Assist in the migration of Oracle databases to PostgreSQL and manage hybrid systems.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for database processes, microservices data management, and procedures.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience with Oracle DBA tasks, including database setup, maintenance, backups, and performance tuning.
  • Expertise in managing databases for microservices architectures, including distributed data management, schema design, and transaction handling.
  • Proficiency in writing SQL queries, PL/pgSQL, and PL/SQL.
  • Strong understanding of database design, indexing, replication, and partitioning techniques, especially in a microservices context.
  • Experience with database performance tuning and optimization in both PostgreSQL and Oracle environments.
  • Familiarity with PostgreSQL extensions like PostGIS, logical replication, and BDR is a plus.
  • Experience with automation tools and scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python).
  • Knowledge of microservices database management patterns like CQRS, eventual consistency, and data sharding.
  • Experience with cloud-based database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure Database for PostgreSQL) and containerized databases in environments like Kubernetes or Docker.
  • Strong understanding of backup strategies and disaster recovery procedures for distributed systems.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, distributed environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to troubleshoot and solve complex issues, particularly in microservices ecosystems.

Education + Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience as a PostgreSQL DBA.
