Job Description:

The local peace advisor will work closely with the international peace advisor in all areas of work. This position is based in the GIZ-CPS office in Lalitpur but entails frequent field visits to other districts. 

Responsibilities:

  • (Co)design and (Co)-facilitate workshops, training and meetings to support holistic approaches to dealing with the past for CPS partners, conflict victims’ groups, civil society organizations, community members and other stakeholders 
  • Support participatory planning processes for local level memory work initiatives
  • Support partners in documentation and curation of narratives of the conflict
  • Support partners in research design and data processing 
  • Support restorative dialogue processes for Dealing with the Past
  • Contribute to organizational development and network development of partners
  • Identify the needs of the partners and design and implement capacity-building activities with partners
  • Contribute to identifying further initiatives aimed at dealing with the past
  • Contribute to project management and strategic planning; monitoring, evaluation and reporting
  • Conduct ongoing context research and conflict analysis
  • Coordinate with and support local partners in designing and implementing activities
  • Assist with translation and interpretation from and into English 
  • Perform further tasks as defined during project planning

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Very good knowledge on the subject of transitional justice, memory work, and human rights in Nepal
  • Knowledge of conflict transformation and concepts of “Dealing with the Past” 
  • Experience of working with and supporting victims/survivors of violence
  • Knowledge about and experience of data processing and secure archiving of data
  • Experience of supporting organizational development and network development
  • Experience and skills in facilitating workshops and conducting trainings 
  • Ability to maintain impartiality when working with actors holding a variety of political affiliations 
  • Strong aptitude for analysis and research 
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and professional presentation 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and with people from different backgrounds
  • Commitment to inclusive, gender-sensitive, collaborative and participative approaches
  • Willingness to travel regularly and to work outside of Kathmandu 
  • Excellent English and Nepali language skills (oral and written), additional local languages are an asset 
  • Very good computer skills, including Nepali (Devanagari) typing 

Education + Experience:

  • Master´s degree in a relevant subject area, (e.g. peace & conflict studies, human rights, transitional justice, sociology, political science, anthropology) or Bachelors degree in a relevant subject area with extensive relevant work experience
  • At least 4 years of relevant work experience in the field of transitional justice, memory work, human rights, disability rights or related area
