GOVERNANCE ADVISOR, NATIONAL VOLUNTEER

Type of role: Advocacy policy and research

Role overview

Support Youth Led CSOs (YLCs) in ensuring their active engagement in promoting internal good governance of YLCs as well as promote their influencing skills for good governance promotion in Climate and Disaster Resilience decision making procedures.

Allowance

As a VSO volunteer, you will be sharing your skills with local communities on a full time basis. VSO will cover your travel, vaccinations, accommodation, and medical insurance costs, along with a local living allowance which will be paid in local currency. This allowance meets reasonable living expenses in country, but will not be enough to send money home. You will also receive some financial support to contribute to your on-going expenses at home.

Accommodation

VSO works with some of the poorest communities in the world which means accommodation varies and will be basic.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Essential criteria (must have to be able to carry out the role successfully)

Experience:

  • Previous experience of working with youth networks/ alliances / CSOs
  • Learning on adoption of Good Governance Approaches

Skills/Abilities:

  • Coordinate and facilitate capacity building interventions
  • Preparation of toolkits and guideline
  • Linkage and networking with government agencies, CSOs mainly youth led CSOs and other development actors

Desirable Criteria: (skills that could be an advantage in the role)

Knowledge/qualifications:

  • Acquainted with policy and provisions of good governance and social accountability including local planning procedures.

Experience:

  • Previous experience of facilitating community score card, social audit and public hearing.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Preparation of policy briefs and learning documentation
  • Lobbying with government authorities

Education + Experience:

Knowledge/qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in social science/ development studies with one year or intermediate degree with three years’ experience on development preferably on good governance and accountability, or relevant subject.
