Job Description:

Swisscontact is the business-oriented independent foundation for international development cooperation. Represented in 36 countries with over 1100 employees, it promotes - since 1959 - economic, social, and environmental development. Government of Nepal (GoN) and Government of Switzerland have been implementing Nepal Vocational Qualifications System Project (NVQS-P) since 2015. The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) is providing financial and technical assistance to the GoN (Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT)/Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST)) for the implementation of the project. Swisscontact Nepal has set up a technical assistance team- Project Support Unit (PSU) on behalf of SDC. For the second Phase of NVQS-P (subject to ratification of the bilateral agreement), we invite applications from committed and experienced Nepali citizens for the following position to be filled.

Position : Communications & Knowledge Management Specialist

Location: NVQS PSU Office, CTEVT Complex, Sanothimi, Bhaktapur,

Nepal Reports to: Team Leader

Duration: One year with possibility of extension

 

Purpose of the Job

The Communications & Knowledge Management Specialist (CKMS) is responsible for implementing the communication activities of NVQS-P. The post holder will contribute to the development and implementation of the communication strategy to ensure that NVQS-P has a robust internal and external communication system in place. Working closely with the NVQS Deputy Team Leaders (Management and Program) the Communication and Knowledge Management Specialist supports in reaching NVQS information to people of Nepal and educate the stakeholders of the project on NVQS and its benefits to them in their employability and human resource development. Second, the Communication and Knowledge Management Specialist manages project/organizational knowledge and data for a reporting system of the project, organizational memory, and information dissemination.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Lead development and implementation of NVQS-P communication strategies
  • Lead in writing and editing documents such as press releases, news pieces, intervention briefs and other relevant documents before final production.
  • Ensure SDC visibility in all communications materials of the project.
  • Review communication strategies on a regular basis and ensure the project monitoring and results management system is firmly in place and executed
  • Collect and compile content for various communication products demonstrating partnership approach and its impact.
  • Coordinate and ensure high quality printing of all communication materials and ensure their proper dissemination.
  • Generate new ideas for producing innovative theme/issue specific communications materials.
  • Provide support in activities related to improving internal communication.
  •  Assist teams in communications related activities when and as required.
  • Coordinate and review English-Nepali-English translations.
  • Provide support in activities related to improving internal communication.
  • Manage NVQS-P website and Facebook. Assist in editing and proofreading all texts for the website and publications.
  •  Coordinate video production demonstrating creative thinking.
  • Support organising major events including exhibitions and campaigns.
  • Set up and manage document library – knowledge bank.
  • Monitor distribution and end use of all communication materials.
  • Comply with the Project Manual following all clauses GESI and HR Diversity.
  • Maintain professional working relationships with partners.
  • Contribute to a harmonious work environment.
  • Adhere to any other duties requested by the supervisor

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Qualification and Experience

The individual must conform to the following qualifications and expertise:

  • Advanced communication skill in both English and Nepali (verbal and written)
  • Ability and willingness to work in a team to deliver high quality outputs within deadlines in a dynamic and fastpaced work environment.
  •  Passion and commitment to building career in development sector
  • Willingness and ability to travel within and outside Nepal

Education + Experience:

  • A minimum of three years’ work experience in communication in the development sector with proven competencies
  • Bachelor or higher degree in relevant field (degree in communication is preferred)
