Six ways to get unstuck when it feels like your job search has stalled
Job search is the process of hunting for employment. It is performed when a person is unemployed or he/she is unsatisfied with their current job. Searching for jobs can be difficult sometimes. People can get stuck because they probably don’t know what to do next. Below is a list of ways through which you can get unstuck while searching for jobs.
1. Networking:
A very common way to try to get unstuck. You can ask for the people in your contact/friend list to know whether there’re any opportunities available in your related field or not. If you’re lucky enough, then you may find a job vacancy in the process. It is beneficial to have links across the companies.
2. Volunteer:
If you’re unemployed have enough time to spare, don’t waste it. You can contact non-profitable organizations and ask them if you can do some work that’s within your qualifications. NGO/INGOs have limited resources of hiring paid workers so you can most probably get yourself a job, even though it is unpaid. But some unpaid volunteering work can become a pathway to paid employment.
3. Recreation:
Don’t pressurize yourself while searching for jobs. Take a break and do something fun to relax. Do what you enjoy doing, this can help you get back to job searching with fresh mind and more energy.
4. Ask someone to scan your resume:
Be sure your resume is in top form. Ask an expert to review it because a good resume can make a difference while looking for a job.If you want a good looking Resume format, then you can download it from JobAxle.
5. Cold-calling:
Send unsolicited resumes to different companies and ask them for informational interviews. They won’t reply most likely but if 2-3 companies do ask you to come, then you can gain experience through those interviews and you can even add another company to your link.
6. Reach out to an old supervisor:
Even though you’re not going to work at your former organization, you can still seek help from them. Your previous employer might help you out with letter of recommendation or give you suggestions on whom to contact.
