Impact of Lockdown in Employment and Job
COVID brings a new way of lifestyle all over the world. Lockdown has a negative impact on businesses, the economy, employment, and travel. A report by UNDP has suggested that 3 in 5 employees have lost their jobs in Nepal due to COVID and Lockdown. Lockdown hits so badly to those people who are daily workers not having any specific field of work. Companies with unstable revenue and not enough resources to work remotely have laid off the employees. Not only to the employment and income but the fear of this disease also made people mentally unstable.
The main factor that played a vital role in job loss is the lack of cash flow between businesses. Another factor that I want to address is not practicing remote work even in possible industries.
How employment problem Started
Early 20 was the beginning of a new pandemic and unexpected consequences. Almost every nation imposed Lockdown till May 2020. Instead of being affected by COVID businesses have suffered badly due to lockdown and travel restrictions.
Business owners even felt that COVID is not going to end rather finding new ideas to grow their business. Also, some terrific restrictions by the government didn’t allow possible businesses to run by using safety measures. Due to the economic crisis, people also started investing less in product purchasing and service purchasing.
Many businesses were operating normally till the day before lockdown started. Many of them had to lay off their employees. Some reasons for this were less cash flow, revenue, and their work culture. Some companies started working remotely. IT companies, eCommerce, and medical sectors were among the least affected industries.
How job market is suffering
Have you noticed the trend of work from home and remote work? Exactly, companies have started practicing remote work when they realize it is possible. Companies have enough resources and are performing well in this practice. Still, employees are facing difficulties and unknown factors to make them less productive.
There are many organizations unable to promote remote work even if they like to do so. Regular customer visits and interactions are required to complete the daily task in the business.
How to overcome this impact
There are few ideas to solve this problem. Promoting remote work is the best option to reduce the employment problem. Analyzing the ability to work remotely and using the best practice can lower the employment problem. Also developing infrastructure to incorporate work from home will reduce the problem in the job market.
Conclusion
COVID-19 bring destruction, loss, and scarcity of job along with hunger problems. This disease not only hit low level workers, but also some high-profile business owners, employees, and industry. Because of these effects of COVID, companies started to lay off their employees to cope with the pandemic. Also, Job Vacancy in Nepal has decreased and the number of vacancies in the recruitment portal is less as compared to pre covid time Remote work is trending among the possible industries. Some businesses are operating with safety measures. The impact of lockdown can be seen in various business industry which are affected badly with no business and less cash flow. Remote work can solve this somehow, however accurate and applicable infrastructure is required.
