Job Description:

Description of the Position:

This position will work in the program for the People with Disabilities with particular focus on intellectual disability, autism, mental and psychosocial disabilities and multiple disabilities who also have neurodevelopmental disorders.

Program Background:

Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Program, formerly known as Inspire2Care Program, is a community-based model of inclusive development implemented in direct partnership with the provincial government of Province No.1 and Local Governments. The goal of the program is to prevent avoidable disabilities and improve quality of life of children and adults with disabilities and their families through Community Based Rehabilitation. It works to strengthen community support systems for the achievement of these goals.

Responsibilities:

Responsibility 1: Leadership and Management

  • Take lead to develop rehabilitation protocol for the rehabilitation of intellectual, autism, psychosocial and multiple disabilities
  • Lead and provide counselling to people with disabilities, their families, staff and other parties
  • Remain abreast of the best practices globally

Responsibility 2: Planning

  • Prepare necessary plans for the identification of people with intellectual, psychosocial disabilities and autism
  • Support CBR Officers and CBRFs in development of rehabilitation goals with emphasis to mental health of people with disabilities

Responsibility 3: Implementation

  • Act as a focal person in the identification of people with intellectual, psychosocial disability and autism
  • Assessment: diagnosis, formulating statements of needs, making recommendations to families
  • Treat psychological disorders to effect improved adjustments utilizing various psychological techniques; select appropriate treatment approach and plans frequency, intensity, and duration of individual, group, and family therapies
  • Observe the people with disabilities in various situations; select, administer, and interpret intelligence, personality, or other psychological tests to diagnose the disability and formulate plans of treatment, and provides consultation to Program and CBR Officers with regard to test results
  • Support in multi-disciplinary disability assessment camps for medical diagnostics of autism, intellectual, mental and psychosocial disability
  • Provide training to Community Based Rehabilitation Facilitators to enhance their knowledge on management of intellectual, autism, psychosocial and multiple disabilities
  • Provide necessary counselling to the families and the people with disability as and when needed
  • Provide crisis intervention in situations requiring immediate psychological treatment
  • Participate in educational programs, in-service meetings, clinician meetings, and workshops to enhance professional development and maintain currency of methodology and techniques

Responsibility 4: Monitoring and Supervision 

  • Monitor and supervise the CBR officers and CBRFs in the counselling and diagnosing intellectual, autism, psychosocial and multiple disabilities  
  • Provide psychological consultation and supervision to the program team 
  • Organization of meetings for parents of children with autism and/or intellectual disability
  • Monitor the progress of people with disabilities and modify the treatment programs; communicate and counsel family members as appropriate

Responsibility 5: Reporting and Documentation and coordination

  • Prepare individual case studies and share it with the team 
  • Maintain proper documentation of all the referrals, treatment and counselling
  • Timely reporting of different cases identified to supervisor
  • Make needful coordination and establish linkage amongst service providers, experts at national and international level

Responsibility 6: Other

  • Perform other program related activities as and when necessary
  • Perform any other training related assignments as necessary

Physical Demands

  • Periodic visits to field offices and program areas required

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Counselling skills
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques
  • Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress
  • Ability to effectively communicate medical information, test results, diagnoses and/or proposed treatment in a manner that is easily understood
  • Ability to evaluate the progress of therapeutic programs and to make individual modifications
  • Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information
  • Knowledge of psychological test administration, scoring, and interpretation
  • Ability to maintain emotional stability to cope with human suffering, emergencies, and other stresses
  • Language and communication skills (English, Nepali) 
  • Two wheelers license preferred

Education + Experience:

  • Minimum of master’s degree in Clinical Psychology; preferably M. Phil in Clinical Psychology
  • At least four years experiences in psychosocial and mental health related field
