Job Description:

Location: Sindhupalchowk and Dolakha Districts (field based position )

Work station: Sindhpalchowk or Dolakha district (TBD)

Time allocation: 70% field office, 30% kathmandu office

Reports to:  Consortium Manager

Programme: Risk-Informed Landslide Management in Nepal's Hill Areas

Introduction

People in Need (PIN) is a non-governmental, non-profit, international organization founded in the Czech Republic in 1992. PIN arrived in Nepal as part of a humanitarian response to the April 25, 2015 earthquake. Since its inception in Nepal, PIN has had a strong role advocating and addressing the needs of marginalized populations. This includes people who live in geographically remote areas of Nepal, people who are from historically marginalized ethnic groups, and those marginalized because of their age and/or gender identity (women and girls). More recently, PIN has also supported Nepal's post-earthquake reconstruction efforts ensuring that the most vulnerable people are not left behind.

Project Summary:

The project titled Risk-Informed Landslide Management in Nepal's Hill Areas is a 1.5-year program funded by European Commission. This project is implemented by a consortium comprising of PIN, NSET, SWN, DU & NU with an aim to improve resilience of hill communities in four municipalities in Sindhupalchowk and Dolakha districts through strengthening risk-informed landslide management at the local level. The core objective is to work with local authorities and disaster management institutions, key actors involved in road construction and infrastructure projects, communities and national government to increase their understanding of landslide hazards, the risks they pose and the impact of human disturbance on communities exposed to hazard risks.

Scope of work

Consortium Field Coordinator is PIN’s field focal person under the Risk-Informed Landslide Management in Nepal's Hill Areas project. S/he is responsible for smooth implementation of project activities through close coordination with project partners, government authorities, beneficiaries and other major stake holders. S/he will work closely with Consortium Manager in delivering the project in time, to the required quality and within budget.

1.Tasks and responsibilities

Project implementation

  • Represent PIN as the field focal person and ensure smooth implementation of all project activities as per the work plan
  • Identify risks and challenges pertaining to project delivery and work closely with the Consortium Manager to mitigate or eliminate them altogether
  • Undertake responsibility of regular monitoring and evaluation of all project activities and assist Consortium Manager run the project with respect to time, quality and budget
  • Establish conducive work relationship amongst PIN, local partners, major stakeholders and beneficiaries for smooth progression of project activities.
  • Coordinate with consortium partners NSET and S. W. Nepal on regular basis for smooth implementation of project activities
  • Liaise with Ward, Municipalities and District Authorities such as NRA, District Coordination Committee (DCC), District Disaster Management Committee (DDMC), Local Disaster Management Committee (LDMC) and other major stakeholders for facilitating smooth operations of project activities
  • Coordinate with PIN’s support departments i.e. HR, Finance, Logistics, Communication, MEAL, Safeguarding and GESI as required on need basis 

    Communication

  • Maintain an open and clear communication with Consortium Manager on regular basis and provide weekly reporting on field activities

Safety and Security

  • Assess safety and security situation critically and make informed decisions in the best interest of project staffs, beneficiaries and stakeholders
  • Keep an updated log of COVID-19 transmission within the areas of operation and supply them to the line manager regularly
  • Follow all COVID-19 safety protocols, specifically in regard to use of Personal Protective Equipment at all times 

Other

  • Adhere to PIN’s code of conduct and other key policies and represent PIN fairly and professionally at all times

Education + Experience:

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience of working in a consortium project with multiple project partners
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in coordinating and liaising with multiple stakeholders including local, district and central government authorities
