Position   Advocacy Expert for  Child Labour: Action-Research-Innovation in South and South-Eastern Asia (CLARISSA) Programme

Post Type: Full time (40 hours per week)

Contract Type: Two and a half years with 3 months probationary period

Work Station: Kathmandu 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Work in close collaboration with the country team and CSC HQ, UK staff to ensure that children are empowered to speak out about their lived realities
  • Explore possibilities of engaging with and strengthening existing platforms for child-led advocacy
  • Together with the country team and CSC HQ staff, will be responsible to develop context-appropriate and child-friendly advocacy training materials and packages
  • Coordinate the development of an advocacy plan with the country team, and support from CSC HQ staff where necessary
  • Support the country team and CSC HQ staff in engaging with regional and international UN institutions and mechanisms for advocacy purposes
  • Participate in shared learning activities, such as webinars, input into e-learning materials, sharing case studies of successes, challenge, and good practices, that will be shared with the project partners, as well as the global CSC Network.

Experience and skills

Essential requirements for the post holder:

  • At least five years of dedicated work experience in the field of evidence-based advocacy and multi-stakeholder communication
  • Experience of advocacy/policy advocacy to multiple stakeholders at local and national level
  • Experience of working directly with highly vulnerable and marginalized children, adults and communities in particular child laborers
  • Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable children or other marginalized groups to bring out their voices to decision- and policy-makers
  • Experience of overseeing and implementing child-led / participatory processes
  • Experience and knowledge of safeguarding and risk assessment with vulnerable and marginal groups
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to network effectively with key local, national and international stakeholder
  • Demonstrated understanding of using Twitter and Facebook to communicate
  • Ability to identify and write blogs and articles in an accessible and engaging way for different audiences. 

Desirable:

  • Existing relationships with relevant government and other relevant stakeholders
  • Experience facilitating advocacy trainings, workshops or dialogues with vulnerable and marginalized children
  • Experience in engaging with regional and international human rights mechanisms
  • Understanding of complexity-based approaches to change’ (or willingness to learn) 
  • Experience with existing platforms for children to voice their views, such as child clubs.
  • Experience of creating multimedia products-i.e. short films and interviews

Knowledge

Essential requirements for the post holder: 

  • Fluency in spoken and written Nepali and English 
  • Knowledge of children’s rights and the relevant national legal/policy framework
  • A good understanding of the local context and opportunities and barriers to creating change
  • Knowledge of child safeguarding
  • A good understanding of the realities faced by children in the worst forms of child labour and those who are vulnerable to being drawn into it.
  • Competence in using MS office
  • Knowledge of media landscape

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the local contexts such as socio-cultural norms in which the child labour work will take place

Essential requirements for the post holder: 

  • Passion for the programme contents, issues and approach e.g. child labour, participatory approach, child-centredness
  • Commitment to the principles of equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practices
  • Willingness to travel to and work with communities living in poverty in remote areas 
  • Self-motivated, goal-oriented, pro-active, enthusiastic and entrepreneurial attitude
  • Commitment to team and collaborative working
  • Comfortable facilitating emergent processes, allowing outcomes to emerge through dialogue and action over time

Desirable:

  • High level of social intelligence

Education + Experience:

Essential requirements for the post holder:

  • Master’s degree in law, human rights, social studies, child rights/protection or similar qualification 

Desirable:

  • Master’s degree in human rights law
  • Training in rights-based advocacy
